Welcome to the memorial page for

Aldo Colautti

July 8, 1926 ~ June 2, 2016 (age 89) 89 Years Old

ALDO COLAUTTI

Peacefully, at age 89, on June 2, after a long and courageous fight with dementia. Aldo was a loving husband to his late wife, Frances (Cumer) (Collman) Colautti, and a devoted dad to his grateful children: Mary Anne Collman (Janice McClurg), Annie (Al) O’Neil, Katie (the late John) Flaherty, Fran (Gerry) Heatherington, Lisa Colautti (Ken Bailey) and the late Marc Colautti (who died shortly after his birth). Pap Pap will be greatly missed by his 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Aldo was preceded in death by his brother John “Pete” (Betty) Colautti. Uncle Aldo will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

Aldo was the son of proud Northern Italian immigrants, Louisa and Leonardo Colautti. He grew up during the Great Depression, served in the Army Air Corps in WWII, and was ironically tasked as an airplane mechanic. He then came home, graduated from Duquesne University on the G.I. Bill, and began a lifelong career as a respected public servant. Aldo served as Executive Secretary to Pittsburgh’s Mayor, County Manager to Allegheny County’s Commissioners, Director of Business Affairs for Pittsburgh Public Schools, Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Public Welfare, and finally as a budget consultant to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Aldo approached every job with a sharp mind, an even sharper sense of humor, and most of all an unfailing dedication to ensuring that the least among us are treated fairly by all government institutions. Although dementia robbed him of his faculties over the past several years, the core of Aldo’s being always shone through — he never lost his sense of humor and his unwavering love for his family.

We thank his many friends and caregivers for all the support they have so generously given. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to Pittsburgh Promise (http://www.pittsburghpromise.org/) or St. Barnabas Charities (https://stbarnabashealthsystem.com/charities/).

Friends and family will be received at Frank F. DeBor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 1065 Brookline Blvd., 412-561-0380, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, at 10 a.m., in the Church of the Resurrection, Brookline.
