THOMAS W. ZUCCO
On Friday, August 14, 2020, Thomas W. Zucco (Tommy Zuke), age 74, of Brookline, passed away after a lengthy battle with heart disease. He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony R. Zucco, and mother, Ruth A. Zucco.
Father of Anthony Zucco; brother of Leonard G. Zucco, Mark A. Zucco, James "Jake" Zucco (Mary Regan); uncle of Lori Zucco-Thorne (David Thorne); nephew to Gloria Zucco-Bickerton; also survived by numerous cousins.
Tom will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by friends and teammates from 60 years of playing softball. He was the first person to play in a World softball tournament using an aluminum bat, and played throughout the Tri-State Area until the age of 72, when health issues slowed him down. A proud lifelong resident of Brookline, Tom attended Brookline Elementary and graduated from South Hills High School. After a short time in the LTS Coast Guard, Tom worked for a few years at Westinghouse Electric. His interest in photography led him to have a studio and One-Day Developing service on Brookline Boulevard. In addition, Tom worked as a Pittsburgh Public Schools Security Guard and school photographer for South Hills High School. He was also the official photographer for the Pittsburgh Spirit Soccer Team. Because of his wit, his compassion, his ever-present smile and his batting prowess on the softball field, Tommy Zucco will remain a legend to all that knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at Frank F. DeBor Funeral Home, 1065 Brookline Boulevard, on Thursday, 2 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. Masks are mandatory and CDC guidelines for social distancing will be enforced.
