ROBERT GEORGE MEADE
Robert George Meade, “RG,” of Brookline, quietly passed into eternal life on January 18. He joins in rest his late wife of 48 years, Geraldine Elaine McKeefery Neubauer, affectionately, “The Warden,” his daughter, Bonnie Sue Meade, and son, William Alan Meade. RG was the son of the late Edwin Meade and Magdalen Hartz.
RG is survived by sons Robert Gerald Meade, his wife, Irena Kaler, of Parsippany, NJ, and Barry Joseph Meade of New York. He is also survived by grandchildren Todd Meade, Ron Meade, Grace Kaler and Ethan Meade, and nephew Kevin Garofalo, his wife, Regina Grohal Garofalo, great-niece, Kassidy Garofalo, and great-nephew, Rory Garofalo. His dear friend and best hunting buddy, Robert “Bobby” Michaels, of Castle Shannon, is remembered fondly as a great friend and extended member of RG’s family.
RG’s 95 years on this earth give testimony to a life well-lived, not without hardships, but rather a life that faced challenges square on, handled with grit, determination and resolve. His gruff demeanor was an exterior presentation of someone who loved his family and friends greatly, but was not raised in a family, culture or time that easily displayed love by outward emotion or gesture. He always seemed timeless and ageless, and in fact, lived most of his 95 years in that way – ageless. He worked hard and played hard. He loved the outdoors and was never one to not be puttering, whether painting, gardening, tending a fire, shooting the breeze with neighbors or those passing by, or sharing a cold one in the garage with his many friends and cronies. There were few in and around Eathan Avenue that did not know RG in some way. He will be missed by many.
RG was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving during WW II. He was inducted in January 1945, and became a Military Police Officer in Japan, serving through December 1946.
Please join in visitation Friday, January 28, from 5 – 8 pm at Frank F. DeBor Funeral Home, 1065 Brookline Boulevard. A service of remembrance and blessing, officiated by Deacon Mark Bibro, will be held Saturday, January 29, 10 am, at DeBor's. Interment at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery is private.
