MICHAEL B. DIVEN
A “Brookliner”, currently residing in Mount Lebanon, on Tuesday, August 18, after a long battle with cancer. Son of the late Joseph R., Sr. and Barbara E. Diven. Beloved husband of Shannon (Donovan); loving father of Rory, Casey and Elizabeth; dearest brother of Joseph R., Jr.; brother-in-law of Marcy; uncle of Josh, Desiree, Jordan, Joey and Jamie.
A graduate of Brashear High School, Michael furthered his football career at East Carolina University, and finished football and earned his degree at Duquesne University. He served as staff assistant to Commissioner Tom Foerster following graduation.
Michael began his own political career as the then youngest elected member of Pittsburgh City Council at age 27 and eventually served the constituents of the 22nd District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. After his political career, Michael’s love of boxing drove him to form relationships with international boxing clubs. He created the Donnybrook boxing event, a match between Pittsburgh boxers and the Drimnagh Boxing Club in Ireland, followed by Pittsburgh versus Italy and the historic Battle on the Bridge between Pittsburgh and Cuba.
Michael’s biggest accomplishment was building a family with his wife of 15 years, Shannon. Rory, Casey and Elizabeth were blessed to share their father’s love of life and sense of humor.
