Kunz, Melvin George, age 94, of Brookline, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026.
Born on January 4, 1932, at South Side Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Melvin proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he worked at J&L/LTV Steel for many years until his retirement. He and his wife, Caroline, loved taking extended trips to their home in Florida, where he enjoyed catching big fish. A devoted Catholic and lifelong member of Resurrection Church, Mel could often be found on Sunday mornings enjoying breakfast at Eat’n Park after Mass. He will be remembered for his dry wit, generous heart, and the way he never met a stranger, making friends wherever he went.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline (Janusiewicz) Kunz; his daughters, Sandra Kunz and Janine Klesch; his brother, Ronald Kunz; and his sister, Dorothy Brown.
He is survived by his son, John A. Kunz and his wife, Diane; his granddaughter, Leiha Lindner and her husband, Scott, and their children, Beckett and Hadley; his grandson, Kurtis Kunz and his wife, Taylor, and their children, Kollyns and Owen; his granddaughter, Alexis Klesch; his sister, Bernadette Burke; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Family and friends will be received at the Frank F. DeBor Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 22, at 10:00 a.m. at Resurrection Church in Brookline, with interment to follow.
