Mary Jane Schaffer, 94, of Brookline, peacefully passed away on May 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 3, 1930, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mary Jane, affectionately known as “MJ”, was a proud mother, devoted wife, and the heart of her family. She had a deep love for her children and grandchildren, and nothing brought her more joy than having everyone together. MJ took great pride in her family and was the matriarch that held everyone together. For many years, her home was the center of holidays, birthdays, and family traditions. She made sure her loved ones stayed close through vacations and gatherings that created lasting memories. Professionally, Mary Jane was a dedicated supervisor at Pittsburgh National Bank, where she worked for 37 years before retiring. Outside of work, she was a devoted Pittsburgh sports fan, cheering for the Pirates as a Lady Buc for many seasons and spending countless Sunday afternoons watching the Steelers, a tradition she truly cherished.
Mary Jane is reunited with her husband of 46 years, Frederick A. Schaffer Sr., her parents John and Jessie Rush, and five of her siblings. Mary Jane is survived by her devoted children: Carol McAfee, Linda Echement, Patricia Baker (Jerry), and Frederick A. Schaffer Jr. (Robin), all residing in the Pittsburgh area. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Hassall of Fort Myers, Florida, her cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many loving relatives and friends. Mary Jane’s legacy of love, strength, and unwavering dedication to family lives on through all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
