MARY K. "KIM" KING, of Bethel Park, formerly of Brookline, passed suddenly, on Sunday, November 16, 2025. Beloved wife of Jeff; mother of Kelly K. Redden, D.O. (Anthony); dear Mimi of Carter and Reece. Daughter of the late Ronald and Mary Lou Miller; sister of Ronald F. Miller (Ann), Elizabeth DeFrancisis (Steve) and the late John and Paul Miller.
Kim was a born athlete. She met her husband, Jeff, at the gym, where he helped her turn her passion for weightlifting into a decorated career as a professional bodybuilder. Throughout her career, she earned many accolades, including winning the NPC National Championships in 1991, placing in the top five at the World Games of Bodybuilding in Germany, and being honored as Pittsburgh's Athlete of the Year in 1994. Kim went on to break barriers, becoming the first woman in the country to serve as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Olympic sports at the University of Pittsburgh - a position she held with pride and dedication for nearly 20 years. The number of collegiate athletes she mentored was vast, and second only to the countless lives she touched at King's Gym and Fitness Center on Route 51. After retiring from Pitt in 2017, Kim poured her heart into her favorite role of all - being "Mimi" to her grandchildren, Carter and Reece. Her legacy lives on in the athletes she shaped, the family she cherished, and the countless lives she inspired along the way.
Family and friends will be received at Frank F. DeBor Funeral Home, 1065 Brookline Boulevard, 412-561-0380, on Thursday only, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, at 10 a.m., in the Church of Resurrection (St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish).
