Lee F. Herbermann, beloved resident of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025. Born on February 27, 1941, he lived a life marked by dedication, service and love.
Lee was the cherished husband of Judith, his devoted wife of 61 years. Their enduring marriage was a testament to their deep bond and unwavering support for each other.
He is survived by his sister, Maria Mader of Elizabeth City, NC; nieces Linda (Jim) McGraw of New Bern, NC and Denise (Rick) Haun of Elizabeth City, NC, and nephew Regis Mader of Hertford, NC. Lee’s legacy also extends to 11 great nieces and nephews and 24 great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Lee proudly served his country with the U. S. Navy Seabees, where he demonstrated his commitment to duty, excellence and patriotism.
His professional career spanned an impressive 40 years at Gulf Oil Corporation. After retiring from Gulf, he became a Bio-fuels Division manager for Export Fuel Co. Inc. Lee’s contributions to the industry were significant and impactful.
Beyond his professional achievements, Lee was deeply involved in his community. He served on the Board of the Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, including 20 years as Treasurer, where he played a crucial role in fostering economic growth and development. Lee was also actively involved with the Elizabeth Seton Center, a senior care facility in Pittsburgh, where he dedicated his time and efforts to improving the lives of others. Lee also served on the Steering Committee with Meals on Wheels, where his compassion and dedication helped provide essential services to those in need.
An avid lover of motorcycles and cars, Lee had a particular fondness for Cadillacs. He collected these luxurious vehicles. Lee served on the Board of the Cadillac and LaSalle Club, the foremost club dedicated to the preservation, maintenance and enjoyment of two of the world’s most luxurious and well-built cars. His enthusiasm for automobiles was infectious, and he was a respected figure in the automotive community. His expertise and knowledge were highly valued. He enjoyed imparting this wisdom by teaching classes on the proper way to store underground fuel tanks. He developed the curriculum, taught, and guided approximately 1000 students in this endeavor.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Elizabeth Seton Center, 1900 Pioneer Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15226, continuing Lee’s legacy of service and care for others. Lee Herbermann’s life was a shining example of service, dedication and love. A celebration of Lee’s life will be held at Frank F. DeBor Funeral Home, 1065 Brookline Blvd., 412-561-0380, on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 12 Noon. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service (11 a.m. to Noon).
Lee will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.
