Josephine "Jay" (D'Alicandro) Aveni, 99, passed away on Tuesday evening, April 28, 2020, in Fairfax, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Samuel, her parents, Antonio and Maria D'Alicandro, and her brothers, Dominic (Joe), Andrew and Frank. She is survived by her three daughters, Eileen (Jay) Sappington, Joanne (Paul) Martin and Norma Jean (Stuart) Young, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
A native of Pittsburgh, Josephine graduated from Westinghouse High School and worked for the federal government before marrying Sam in 1948. Following Sam's death in 1999, she moved to Virginia to live near her daughter. She enjoyed living in the Washington area and relocated to The Virginian retirement home in 2016. Her family will miss her joy, generosity, kindness, faith, laughter and her Italian culinary expertise.
A private memorial service is being held on Tuesday, May 5, at Frank F. DeBor Funeral Home, in Pittsburgh, PA, with interment to follow. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.

Her family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff at The Virginian Retirement Community, in Fairfax, Virginia.
