JOHN MOLINDA
With his family by his side, John Molinda passed away peacefully at his home on December 22, 2022. He shared that home in Mt. Lebanon with his late wife, JoAnn, for more than 50 years. His family, sons John and Greg, and daughters Sue, Jeanne, Donna and Allie, have many fond memories of the best Dad anyone could have. These memories include many picnics at South Park, dinners at Gramma’s house, sledding at night, and wiffle ball games in the street while the grownups sat out on the neighborhood steps. Our Dad was a baseball coach and always supported us in sports - from football to volleyball to soccer. He was never too busy to play catch in the alley after supper.
John Molinda was an Army veteran during the Korean War and spoke often of his time in Japan. He was a pole lineman, and that led to his career as an electronic technician with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), where he worked for 32 years. Dad was a fix-it guy and a woodworker. He was very resourceful and was really a workingman’s engineer. He found a way to get it done. Along with the skills he passed along to his kids was a love for sports, and golf, in particular. He played many a round at South Park and other local courses even up until he was 93 years old. He is fondly remembered by his golfing buddies.
Our Mom and Dad spent a good deal of time traveling the country and visiting their 15 grandchildren, Anna, DJ, Abbey, Sierra, Seth, Katie, Joey, Glen, Jackie, Molly, Bubs, Maddie, Jenny, Matt and Amelia. Now to include 3 great-grandchildren, Calvin, Eloise and Darcy. They fondly remember “Ride the horse to Boston, Ride the horse to Lynn,” and hanging out with gramma and grampa at the beach. In his high school yearbook from Munhall High Class of 1947, the caption on his pictures reads, “One of the gang, a regular guy, always has that look in his eye.” Nobody could ever say it better.
Friends and family will be received at Frank F. DeBor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 1065 Brookline Blvd., on Thursday, January 5, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 6, at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Resurrection, Brookline (St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish). We hope you will celebrate John’s life with us at Greg’s home following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eight Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
