Janet Cuneen, 72, who loved to be called “Gaga ” by her 5 grandchildren, departed her loving family on January 13th 2022.
Janet, from Pittsburgh, was born and raised in South Side on September 17th, 1949 to the late Mary and Edmund Derke.
Janet was the wife of Daniel Cuneen, and they just recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 11th. She raised her children, Janell and Janae, with love and devotion in their Brookline home.
Janet began working at the age of 14 at Lando’s Pharmacy in South Side and was fondly known as “one of the Lando twins”. She then spent the remaining 20 years of her career in the medical field, until she retired to help take care of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Daniel, her children, Janell Loman (Mandell) and Janae Trainer (David), and her 5 grandchildren Sierra, Stephen, Nathan, Dacien and Amara.
Janet is also survived by her identical twin sister Judi Mullen (William) who will miss her dearly, sister in law Carol Cassidy and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard and Ronald Derke.
Janet loved her grandchildren fiercely and was their biggest supporter and inspiration. She never missed a sporting or school event and was even known as “Gaga” by teammates and fans.
Janet left many close friends behind (too many to name), and she shared a special love and bond with them all, especially with the four that spent time with her every week.
Janet always enjoyed helping others by volunteering her time, such as a cheerleading coach or bingo caller. She truly had an impact on the lives of many, both young and old and will be dearly missed.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday and Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at Frank F. DeBor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 1065 Brookline Blvd., 412-561-0380. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10 a.m., in the Church of the Resurrection (St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish). www.deborfuneralhome.com
