JAMES S. "JIM" MILLER
Age 96, of Brookline, formerly of Mt. Washington, on Friday, October 4, 2024. Born August 3, 1928, Jim was the only child of Stephen J. Miller and Anna (Mulholland) Miller. Loving husband of 50 years to the late Joan Elizabeth (Michel) Miller. Beloved father of Stephen James and Paul Edward (Maria Rose LaCava) Miller. Brother-in-law to Cetta Douglas, Robert Michel, Louis Coffy and Elizabeth Lubawy. Cherished grandfather of Katherine (Duane DiCenzo), James and Andrew Miller. He is also survived by many paternal relatives and cousins, mainly in Upper New York State.
Jim grew up in Mt. Washington, attended and graduated High School from St. Mary of the Mount in 1946. He served in the U. S. Army from 1946-1948. After the army, he took classes at Duquesne University and Community College, while waiting to be accepted into the newspaper trade in 1949. At the Pittsburgh Press, he became a journeyman and worked at two different trades - Pressman and Stereotype. After his marriage to Joan in 1958, they bought a home in Brookline and raised their family there. He retired after 42 years with the newspapers, and then continued to enjoy a lifetime passion, winter and summer, bowling and playing golf. In his later years, he tried to keep up with the computer age and its advancing technology, with some success over the "horse and buggy" days in which he grew up.
Family and friends will be received at the Frank F. DeBor Funeral Home, 1065 Brookline Blvd., 412-561-0380, on MONDAY only, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, at 10 a.m., in the Church of the Resurrection (St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish).
