George Mislanovich Obituary

George Steven Mislanovich, age 78 of Brookline, passed away on Monday May 12, 2025. After having battled various health issues over the past several years, including beating cancer, he passed peacefully. Born on New Year’s Day 1947, George was the son of the late Elizabeth (Libby) Mislanovich/Hobson and Steve Mislanovich. After his father passed when he was only 13, he was fortunate to have a second father, the late Russell (Hobby) Hobson. George was originally from the South Side graduating from South High School in 1964. After graduation, he served his country in the United States Air Force for four years which included a tour in Vietnam. He would later serve his fellow “Yinzers” as a Pittsburgh City Firefighter proudly based out of the #26 Brookline Station. He also was a long-time member of the Dormont VFW.

George is survived by his beloved wife of over 26 years and best friend Sue(Tenney), his children Lynn Ann(Jason) Benamati, Keri(Mark) Carney and John(Kristin) Holieb. He also leaves behind his siblings Robert(Debra), Peter(Bonnie), Steven(Karen) and Debra(Rich) Donnelly. Additionally, “Pappap” is survived by his grandchildren Brittany(Austin), Logan, Cailey (Mike), Alexis, Claire, Ethan, Austen, Logan and Nolan. “Pappap” was also the great-grandfather of Aurelia and James. George leaves behind many nieces, nephews, in-laws, dear friends and close neighbors. It would be remiss to omit his favorite little four-legged companion Buddy Ray.  Weelllll…George “The Captain” was truly the life of the party. Every time you would see him you knew that all was “fine and dandy!” He especially enjoyed the holidays and family get-togethers with his loved ones. His backyard “pool oasis” was a cherished gathering spot. He was a decades long Steelers season ticket holder who relished the game days spent in the stands with his brothers. He enjoyed traveling, especially the many trips to Punta Cuna. There isn’t an old Western movie that George couldn’t quote from. He was loyal to all who were blessed to be family or a friend and there are very few who were more generous in life.
