"Mary Lou” Wertz entered into eternal peace on Saturday, December 31, 2016, surrounded by her family at the age of 74.  Born Mary Louise Wittmer on November 22, 1942 to her loving parents, Rita and the late William Wittmer.  Mary Lou is the oldest sibling of William II, Walter (Maria), Warren, Cheryl, Janet (Nick), and Jill (Randy).  Mary Lou was not only a sister, she was a caregiver, confidant, and friend. 

Mary Lou touched the lives of everyone she met.  She made everyone feel like they were important and enjoyed talking to family, friends, and even complete strangers.

After meeting Jim at the age of 15 they spent the next 59 years by each other’s side.  Throughout their 53 years of marriage, Mary Lou was a loving wife to Jim.  Mother to the late Joyce Irene, Cindy (Bob) Bauer, Beth (Larry) Brubach, Linette (late George) Milkovich, Jim Jr. (Melissa), Bill (Nikki), and Rita (late Jimmy) McGee (Dan Kohr).  Grandmother to Jessica, Tyler, Breanna, Cory, Justin, George, Sydney, J.T., Alexander, Rebecca, Luke, Brendan, Bailey, Kara, Danielle, Chelsea, and Kaitlyn.  Sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, godmother, and friend to many.  

Mary Lou taught others to put family first, love selflessly, and live life to the fullest. 

Friends and family are welcome to celebrate Mary Lou at a Memorial Mass on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of the Resurrection,1100 Creedmoor Ave., Pittsburgh 15226. 

The family requests that any donations be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association.
