JOHN P. FRIEL (SR.)

Of Brookline, on Sunday, August 14, 2016, joined his beloved wife, the late Catherine H. Friel.  Loving father of Cathy (Ralph) Ruggiero, John, Jr. (Charlene) Friel, James Friel, Sally (John) Ducouer, and Thomas (Gerallyn) Friel; grandfather of Ralph, Jason, Rebecca, Valerie, Danielle, Jamie, Molly, John, III, and Hugh; great-grandfather of Cassidy, Madison, Jocelyn, Leila, Garvin, Harley, Olivia, Ryan and Annabelle; brother of Mary Enright, and the late Grace Wagner, Sr., Ellen Friel, O.S.U., Marjorie Kirby and Frank Friel.  

John was a World War II veteran of the 9th Infantry Division, an active member of the Knights of Columbus 491, devoted weekly usher at the Church of the Resurrection, and retired chemical engineer at Neville Chemical Company.  

Friends and family will be received at Frank F. DeBor Funeral Home, Inc., 1065 Brookline Boulevard, 412-561-0380, on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10 a.m., in the Church of the Resurrection, Brookline.  Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.  

His family wishes to thank the medical staff at 5E and 5G, St. Clair Hospital, and the Visiting Angel Caregivers.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Brookline Meals on Wheels, c/o St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, 933 Brookline Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA  15226, where John volunteered for many years.
